Lisbon | Food and Wine Tours, Cultural Walks | Bespoke Cooking Experiences
Our Lisbon Food / Wine Tours / Culinary Walks
We have tours in English, German, but also in Spanish, Italian and French !
Join us in exploring Lisbon through our rich gastronomy. Experience genuine local foods and hear about traditional family restaurants and shops, historical events that shaped Portuguese culture and the range of produce and ingredients that characterise our gastronomy. Our tours focus on the influence of Portuguese gastronomy around the world. Find out about 15th and 16th Century Portuguese food exports to Japan (tempura) and India (Vindaloo, Pakora), how 18th Century conventual sweet-making complemented catholic habit starching and how new Christians (‘converted’ Jews in the 15th Century) invented a new delicacy by subtly substituting pork for poultry in traditional Portuguese smoked sausage making, or how Port wine began as a way of preserving wine in the 17th century on long transports to Britain… After one of our walks you will be able to shop locally, order more knowledgeably in a restaurant or pick some great ingredients to bring home as a reminder of the great tastes of Portugal. Come and discover hidden gems in Lisbon's traditional neighbourhoods and taste Portugal on a Plate!

Crazy about Portuguese Food and Wine
"Portugal on a Plate" was founded by Pedro and Franziska - a couple passionate about food and Portugal's rich culture and history.
Pedro is Portuguese and began cooking in his teens when coming home from nights out with friends, he realised that whipping up a delicious meal for friends was the best way of wrapping up the night.
Franziska is German, and while living in Australia during the late 1990s, explored lots of different sweets and pastries and finally admitted to being a choco-holic at heart. She was a strict vegetarian before meeting Pedro in Scotland in 1999.
Together Pedro and Franziska have been publishing a leading blog on Portuguese cooking since 2009 - http://pasto.wordpress.com - where they present original Portuguese influenced recipes with gorgeous photographs in easy to follow steps.
With their two young boys, who love food as much as they do and are eager to try new tastes and flavours, they divide life between the UK and Portugal.
Pedro and Franziska welcome you in joining their culinary and cultural walks. They are convinced that these walks will enable you to discover the remarkable tastes, stories and techniques that make Portugal on a Plate.
In 2016, they founded the Portuguese registered company Recados & Narrativas for tourist and cultural projects.
